The following program is recorded content created by the Truth Network. It's Matt Slick Live. Matt is the founder and president of the Christian Apologetics Research Ministry, found online at Carm.org. When you have questions about Bible doctrines, turn to Matt Slick Live for answers, taking your calls and responding to your questions at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
Hey everybody, welcome to the show. It's me, Matt Slick, and your list of Matt Slick Live. If you want to give me a call, as usual, all you have to do is dial 8772072276. I want to hear from him to give me a call. And you can, if you want, you can send me an email.
We have nobody waiting right now, so I'm able to get to the emails. Email addresses: info at carm.org, info at CARM. Dot o-r-g. I'm actually looking at the at the inbox right now at the info. And interesting stuff people are talking about in there.
And if you put in a if you email me, all you're gonna do is put in a subject line, radio comment or radio question, kind of get that going. Let's see. I am. What am I working on? I'm working on an outline release.
on on philosophy. And what's happened over the years is I'll talk to atheists, particularly atheists, they like to throw out a philosophical position. They want to discuss all kinds of things, you know, and empiricism, rationalism, and then partial rationalism, and then inverted, logical, paradoxical, blah, blah, blah. And so, what I did is I started gathering notes. And years ago I started doing this.
Let's see how much. How long are my notes? Uh this one. How many pages? It doesn't even show me how many pages are in there.
And uh the what I'm doing is converting those notes to Um Huh, that's interesting. Converting the notes to um HTML. HTML is hypertext markup language. In other words, converting it to just a web page. And I'm putting links at the top so you can go and look at different things.
And what I'm doing is putting in what the topic is And um what the problems are with it. And so that's what I'm doing.
Now, how many pages is this thing? I gotta look. Uh let's see. This is something I'm doing here. Man, I got so many s I have so much stuff.
Look at this. I can't even see what the page numbers are. It won't come up. And I don't know, I'll figure it out a little bit. But if you want to give me a call, like I said, 877-207-2276, I want to hear from you.
Give me a call. And um Look, the f my Word document's packed in funny. Maybe that's what it is. I'll just save it and reopening it. But I'm converting.
I'm thinking it's like 150 pages. That's what I'm thinking. I don't know. I've been doing this for so long. I just do these things.
And. And For me, I enjoy it. I enjoy these kinds of discussions and research projects. And uh Like I said before, I don't I don't follow any sports. In fact, uh I think it was the case that there was a soccer game yesterday.
I think it was World Cup or something like that. I don't even know who played. And uh just That's me. I was like, okay, that's nice. I'm going to go do something else.
And so, anyway, working on outlines, and I'm going to see, could get reopened this file. Just one of those personal things. How long is that file? How many pages is it? It's one of those things.
And I'm making it, what I'm trying to do is make things so that they're easy enough so that people can get good information just quickly.
Now one of the problems, however, is that the youth the youths, they don't don't really read that that much anymore. They want everything on video and/or read to them.
So, this is an adjustment we're having to make here at Carm.
Now we've done a lot of videos, a lot of stuff. We do radio and uh all kinds of things, put articles in video form and things like that.
So we're working it, but uh, it's just a lot of work, and um I could use that help. I could use help. People who are dedicated to those kind of things. We can't really pay, but I might be able to raise the funds for that. And that's the thing: Christian ministries a lot of times are just not really well financially off.
And, you know, just what it is. But if we had, let's say, someone just dumped a million dollars in the bank, let's say this happened, okay, in the karma account. What would I do? I would hire people who could then convert a lot of what I do into videos. And their job would be to work the videos into different formats for different media.
And the reason I think that's so important is because that's where everybody's going. That's where the youth are, and they need to have good information out there. And for me, I think it's a very worthwhile endeavor because we want that information out there. It's one of the ways to get what I've learned over the years out there, either on paper and/or in video and audio and things like that. Those are the kind of things we may be working on.
And of course, I'd be able to pay some of our volunteers a little something. They help out, they never complain. You know, they're volunteers, and occasionally I'll reimburse them for something or help out with something. And that's it. You know, it's just what it is.
And that's okay. We're just trying and working on what we can. That's it, all right?
Alright, alright, alright.
So now why don't I get the number out? And the number is 8772072276. Let's get to Germain from. California, welcome Germaine you're on the air. I'm scared.
Hey, Matt, um And I just heard what you said before I asked my question. I meant to tell you your. Your ministry is being utilized by a former UFC fighter overseas. Who's uh who's now preaching? Really?
And he let me know that he uses Karn. That's one of his resources to combat false doctrine. Oh, well cool.
Okay.
Well good for him. Good for him. That's what it's for. We want to do it in different languages, different ways, and get the information out. I'm trying to figure out a way.
Two. work something up so that I can do either you know maybe a booklet. and I can put it into web page form also, where I work from the very basics of the Christian theological system. And as the further you read, the more it gets involved and there's repetition on purpose. To inculcate, to teach high repetition.
That's one of the thoughts I've had recently before about all that. Anyway.
Now I'm rambling. Go ahead, buddy. What do you got, man?
Well uh so I'm one oh nine room. Uh each Each of the the men in our church is going to give like a segment on I have a Bible and that one sticks out to me because it seems largely negative. And in my right word, if you read that psalm, David is kind of. He's in a bad way and he's he's kind of lashing out in prayer. at at whoever has wronged him.
Yeah. I guess I would I would ask is it is it normal To kind of feel that way as a believer. Because he's appealing to God, but he's. He's basically calling down curses on them, their family, and People have done severe harm to him. Yeah.
This is what's called an imprecatory psalm.
so to imprecate is to wish harm upon someone. to wish something bad to happen to them. Psalm 109 is one of the purgatory psalms. There's many. I have a list of them on the Carm website.
So this is paralleled by Psalm 35, 69, 137. And it calls calms down it calls down curses on p people.
Now What do we do with this as Christians? Because Jesus says turn the other cheek.
Well, turning the other cheek doesn't mean you never respond. It doesn't mean you never defend yourself. It doesn't mean you don't you don't want judgment. Jesus says in Luke 22:36, by a sword. He actually said this.
A lot of people are blown away by that, but he told his disciples, by a sword. Luke twenty two thirty six, and it's it's mainly for self-defense.
So Let's say, for example, I've had this happen to me where a Satanist was. threatening to to uh kill my entire entire family and myself. And So, in my prayer, this is all true, okay, this really happened. And it's quite a story, actually. But at any rate, FBI got involved in everything.
And so. The uh The thing I would pray was first for that person's salvation. Lord, please save that person or persons who are doing this I'd rather they be saved than not saved.
However, Lord, May it also be the case, according to your will, if that's what you desire, that it be done to them according to your justice. that their teeth would break, that their Their joints would stiffen, that their words would falter, a generic kind of uh imprecation. And I would ask. Nevertheless, Lord, not my will, but your will be done. I would prefer that person gets saved.
But if that's not in how it's going to work, Then get 'em. Get them and show your justice and your holiness upon them so that others might see the fault of them and might come to Christ.
So that's how I would deal with things like that. And I still pray like that occasionally. on people. that that be it. In fact, when people have told me that uh they're going to pray for my my demise.
And the stuff. I I warned them. I say, because you said that, I will now be praying against you specifically. invoking the name of the Lord. that what you wish upon me will come back upon you.
and I will stand under the blood of Christ. And so, you know, there are ways for Christians to act. In a strong and thoughtful way, uh in an imprecatory way. And uh it it's okay to do that. In my opinion, if it's sandwiched in with a desire for their salvation, but Lord, if that's not going to happen, then get them.
you know, etc.
Okay.
Okay, and I'll I'll just pick this up again 'cause I'll be I have like a month or so to work on this. I would say wouldn't the redeeming portion be where earlier in the song where he said, you know, he He's praying, but he went to prayer 'cause ultimately putting it in God's hands, God does acts operally and and No in mercy Isn't that kind of him venting and at the same time, leaving this to God's judgment. Yeah. Well, there's one psalm where it's. you know, well like this one here.
May their children be fatherless, and his wife a widow, let his children wander about and beg, let them seek sustenance far from their ruined homes. And it goes on and there's uh it it's pretty tough.
So It is a complaint out of his utter weariness, I get it. I get it. I'm not saying I went through what David went through, but as a public figure, And having been threatened with death, family uh death, um you know, lawsuits, pursuits being swatted. People saying bad things about me. In fact, I just saw, if I understood it correctly, a mocking video about me with atheism.
And people will do all kinds of things.
Okay, and so what do we do?
Well, the fact is it does have an effect on people. And it can have a negative effect.
So, we Christians have the advantage of relying on Christ. and recognizing that nothing comes to us unless it's been permitted by God. And then my Might Method. At this point, it is to pray for their salvation, but also to pray for the judgment upon them and for their sin. and hopefully that it would bring them to a place of of repentance.
But I think it'd be worth an effort for you to study what's called the Imprecatory Psalms, just as a light examination. In fact, uh let's see, Ubuntu Karm in precatory Psalms, let's see if it. I have a list someplace, I remember writing about it. And um Uh oh. Oh, there it goes.
What are the imprecatory psalms? That's the article, wrote it back in 2016. And There's a list. Psalm 5, 17, 28, 35, 40, 55, 59, 70, 71, 79, 80, 94, 129, 137, 139, and 140. They're real.
I should put 109 in there too. In fact, I'll do that because it's obviously purgatory.
Alright, buddy. Hey, man, hold on, buddy.
Sorry, we got a break. Hey folks, be right back after these messages. If you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial. 877-207-2276. We'll be right back.
It's Matt Slick live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All right, and welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, it is easy. Just L 877-207-2276.
Jermaine.
Alright, buddy. Still there, buddy? Oh yes, I am.
Alright.
So, I don't know if that helped or not. I hope it did. Yeah, that helped very much in um It helps me because at any one point in time, I think most of us personally have been there in some capacity. that some kind of spoke out to me and I I really want to do a good job. on a presentation of it.
So I will be checking out the articles on Carm And uh I'm sure we'll get to talk about it again. you are willing so we can continue to develop it. All right, now here's something to think about when you're looking at Psalms and all Old Testament scripture. Jesus says in John 5:39, You search the scriptures, because in them you think you have eternal life, but it is these that bear witness of me.
So if you're doing Psalm 109, how does it bear witness of Christ, and in what sense? That's something that we needed to do. Because if you just develop a lesson. That is, here's the good things in it, here's the bad things. Live good, don't do bad.
Then that's moralism. But if you say, here's the things and the reasons because of Christ's character, this is the ultimate, blah, blah, blah. That's what you want to do. You want to anchor it in the personal work of Christ.
Okay? Yeah, absolutely. I look forward to that challenge. I I'll ride by you before I I get up there.
Alright man, I want you to do that, I want you to teach me. But I I got a lot to learn.
Okay.
All right. All right. Okay, brother. Right. Thanks a lot, man.
Appreciate you, brother. All right. Yeah, appreciate you too, man. God bless.
Okay.
Stop.
Alright.
So, I did find out how many pages on my philosophy notes just because I'm kind of vainal about that kind of stuff. It's only 110 pages. In Microsoft Word. Darn, I gotta make it longer. All right, let's get to Scott from Texas.
Scott, welcome. You're on here. Thank you. Uh question is it's probably a simple one. Yeah, Magic Coin that team.
where it says to baptize the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Now when you bring up Uh Yeah. thirty eight where it says you're parents you should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins Mm-hmm. How does those two cool? Like one says in the trip into all three.
Okay.
And once there's one, I'm missing something. Yes, baptized in the name of Jesus means by the authority of. The proper means of baptism is the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. If you go to Acts chapter 4. You got a lot of noise coming in the background there, man.
It's like something's going on. I hear a I hear a yeah, anything. Yeah. So let me just read this to you. On the next day, this is Acts 4, verse 5.
The next day, the rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem, and Annas the high priest was there, Caiaphas. And all who were there. When they had placed them in the center, they began to inquire: by what power or in what name have you done this? And Peter filled the Holy Spirit, said, Builders, blah, blah, blah, by this name of Jesus.
So they're saying by the name of Jesus, by the name Jesus Himself. He's the one who grants that authority.
So when you baptize in the authority of Christ, in the name of Christ, you say, baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It's like the phrase stop in the name of the law. It's like that.
Okay.
Oh.
Okay.
I was wondering about that 'cause I've got uh some guys that are getting baptized Just in the name of Christ. Yeah, that's a cult. It's a cult. It's a cult that does that. Called Oneness Pentecostal, and they baptize in Jesus' name.
And they deny the Trinity, they deny the true incarnation, and they add baptism as a requirement for salvation.
Okay.
Exactly.
So your friend is probably in a couple. I'm sorry? I said, thank you for your. I think that I was just down at their solid opportunity. Oh, yeah, that's okay.
Oh, there you go. All right, brother. Thank you very much. You're welcome. All right.
We had a bad connection there. That happens sometimes. If you want, you can call. The number is 877-207-2276. Oscar from New York.
Welcome, Brett. You're on the air. Yes, sir. Yes. I am in Professor, I'm trying to figure something out.
Okay.
Is there a godly repentance And they were the repentant? Yeah, for example Oh, that makes sense. Because the Muslims they repent But they don't come to Jesus. Right. Yes.
Oh, thank you. Thank you. Yes. Now, the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 7, verses 9 and 10: Now, I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance. For you were made sorrowful according to the will of God.
So that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. For the sorrow that's according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
So, this repentance of Islam just produces death because they're turning from sin, but they have no sin covering. Even in Protestantism, some people say repentance is what gets you salvation. And I wait, wait a minute, what do you mean repentance gets you salvation? And I say repentance is like if you're lying, you stop lying. The Bible says thou shalt not lie.
So are you saying, well, if you keep the law? and repent and keep the law that you're going to be saved? And this is what I'm trying to get them to see. Repentance isn't the thing that saves you, but you should repent in your salvation.
So repentance or stopping your sin isn't what saves you. But trusting in Christ is what saves you. But they go together in that you're to repent, you're to stop your sinning. If you're a Christian, you've got to stop. and this goes together.
That's why they're they're they're coupled like that together, okay? Oh, okay. Thank you very much. Yeah, yeah, thanks. Bye-bye.
All right. Well, God bless.
Okay.
All right, if you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial 8772072276. Let's get to Elijah from Pennsylvania. Elijah welcome you on the air. Are you there? Elijah There we go.
Hello, I am. I thought I hit the button, I guess I missed. Yes, brother, I I hear you.
Okay, okay, great. Yeah. I have a question. About Um Muslim lady that I just Or both this. Um I can I I'm still attacking.
You're breaking up and uh and it's hard to understand you. Um how about this? Uh either move your lo your physical location, if you s better sell thing, or call right back, get a better connection.
Okay? Oh, do you hear me now?
Okay, keep going, let's see how it works.
Sounds better.
Okay.
I uh thought this v uh Um I can hear myself echoing on the phone. Yeah, why don't you call it myself? Just call right back. Yeah, just call right back. No big deal.
It happens. All right, he's going to call right back. We have wide open lines. If you want to give me a call, all you've got to do is dial 877-207-2276.
Now, I just want to take this opportunity to let you know that we stay on the air by your support. If you would be so kind and merciful as to consider supporting this ministry, all you have to do is go to carm.org, and the top of the page, you'll see the word donate. And we ask. That uh You know, five or ten, fifteen dollars a month, things like that. And what it does is it helps us to be able to make budgets and know what we can and can't do.
And so we do need that support. We really do. That's how we stay on the air, it's how we keep the lights on, it's how we pay the missionaries who are in their respective countries spreading the gospel with supportofcarum.org. Hey, we'll be right back after these messages, and we'll get to Elijah again.
So please stay tuned. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. Everybody, welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, 877-207-2276, Elijah, are you there?
Yeah, can you hear me now? Oh, much better. Everything's much better. There you go. All right, brother.
So what do you got? Yeah, so See Uh female muscle settled. A thorn viral. Um, uh her name's Cora, uh-huh. Per but uh several Okay.
I'll just have the vape bait briefly. And our most recent setup. You're breaking up really badly. You're breaking up badly again.
So, how about this? Instead of giving me a background, because I can't follow it all, just tell me what's the question, what's the issue, and say it slowly. Because then I can because every other word is like breaking up, so let's change it slowly. Let's see if we can figure it out from there, okay? All right.
So the Muslim objection Justice of God.
Okay.
Yeah. Yeah. Just justice of God versus Christianity and Islam.
Okay.
Yeah. Yeah, and um they take We were just Um The God of Islam. Thanks, Ed. Uh no for you. Given this.
You have to repent by going through certain criteria. You have to check this box. box this box Yeah. I'm a curious. Yeah, it's really hard to understand you.
So, are you asking about the difference between justice and Islam? and how it's achieved uh between Islam and Christianity. I was uh trying to Yeah. Um because because Muslims are saying that Uh the god of Bible is Yeah. In his is a forgiveness Christian uh God of the Us.
Okay, something about the God of the Bible is injust in his forgiveness, is that right? And the God of Islam is just. Is that correct? Yes, because Okay. That's it.
I'll I'll let me respond to that, 'cause if you if you go on, I it's just I it's so bad.
Sorry, it's not your fault, but it's just really bad. It's just like really having to put together what you're saying.
So, there's a problem inside of the justice of Islam. One of the illustrations I give is with a Muslim, I'll say, look. Let me ask you a question here. Let's just say that there's a man who is obviously a very evil man. He's guilty of all kinds of crimes.
uh the heinous crimes Well he's he's uh Killed people, he's stolen things, he's wrecked cars, he's Kidnap people, etc. He's a bad person. And he's finally caught And a hundred witnesses come forth. And he's found guilty. I mean, it's obvious he is really guilty.
And the judge says Yeah, that's okay. You can go free because you you said you're sorry, you repented.
So you'd go free? I asked him. Is that a righteous judge? And they always say, well, no, it's not a righteous judge. And I said, why?
because the man repented just like in Islam. and Allah the Judge lets him go.
So you're saying then that the God of Islam is unjust. He had is unjust because All a person has to do is just say they're sorry and mean it, and that's fine. That's it, it's all gone. Everything's done. And I say, the God of Christianity is way too holy for that.
You see. If you sin against him, he doesn't just arbitrarily let it go if you say you're sorry. That means he's been offended by your sin because your sin is an offense against his holiness. The same in Islam. And if he does not deal with this holiness issue and just saying, oh, it's okay, never mind.
then he is not being just. Where the God of Christianity is just, He's the one who takes care of the offense. Of the sin against God. He's the one who is offended. and he's the one who makes payment for that offence.
And say, your God's the one that's unjust. And the Christian God is the one who's just because He doesn't ignore His own law. Because that's what the Muslim God has to do: ignore his own law in order to save someone else. But God, Christianity, does not ignore his own law. He must He must answer.
the truthfulness of His Holiness. Not arbitrary, you're you're free, you're not free, depending on what the good thing is that someone else does. But it's in the goodness of Himself. This is why the God of Islam is inferior.
Okay? That help any? Yeah, uh nope, really great. Response. And um one for a little.
It's so hard to understand you. It's so hard to understand you. Sorry. It is. It's hard, but it is.
Try it again slowly, okay?
Okay, uh Or uh Per addition.
So she said That Uh the girls. Yeah, it is object.
Okay.
It's just not working. It's just not working. The connection is so bad that I think I was typing to Keith to see if he can hear. If he understands, you don't know if he's at the tape at the board or not. But it's so bad.
It's just bad. It's just spotty. It's like you know, yeah, do like that. It's just hard to understand. He says uh it's choppy.
Yeah, he can't understand you either.
So something's going on on your end then. All right?
So Or I'm not sure what you said, but I assume they'll give it a try some other time. All right, brother. God bless.
Hope that helped a little. It's okay. All right, well, that happens sometimes, you know. He tried to work through that and was able to put some of what he was saying together, but I hope it wasn't too entertaining for the listeners. Let's get to Eric from Virginia.
Eric, welcome. You're on the air. Um I am I'm trying to lose on the echo right now. Oh wow, maybe having phone issues then on our end. Who knows?
Go ahead. I will try to Yeah.
So wanted to go over the verse in Hebrews As far as those who have tasted the heavenly gift and have continued to sin, it's impossible to renew them again to repentance. I know I'm sorry. I was interrupting you.
Sorry. A lot of people who disagree with eternal security use this. As a justification for you to lose your salvation. And I was just wondering if you could possibly exegete the verse. Sure, no problem.
So, this is what it says in Hebrews 6:4-6. For in the case of those who've once been enlightened, does enlightened mean they were saved? No. Was Judas enlightened? Yeah, he was.
Can the Jews who heard the words of Christ be enlightened about what is true? Of course they can. Does it mean they're saved? No. They tasted the heavenly gift.
What does tasted the heavenly gift mean? What does it mean to taste it? And what heavenly gift is it that is being spoken of? And have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit.
Well, what does it mean to be made a partaker of the Holy Spirit? Because the phrase doesn't occur anywhere else.
So, if they're going to say this means particular means you're saved, well, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. You have to demonstrate that that's what it means in the text, in the context itself. But how can you? You just assert that it's there. And by asserting it, it doesn't mean it's true.
If you're going to make an argument and draw a conclusion on it, your premises have to be valid. And to say particular to the Holy Spirit means they're saved. Doesn't mean they're saved. Judas was never saved to begin with, and yet he was definitely a partaker of the Holy Spirit and the work of the Holy Spirit through Christ and through other people.
So that would apply to him as well. And have tasted the good word of God in the powers of the age to come. To taste doesn't mean you're eating the whole thing. And I say that, I go, does it mean to taste? Are you eating it?
And even as I said, and they were eating the word, what would that mean? And so, this is so full of symbolism. that we're having difficulty understanding what it means. And it says, and then they've fallen away. Fall away from what?
Never does it say in a text that they're saved or they're justified. But they've tasted and they've been exposed to various things. And so they fall away, it's impossible to renew them again in repentance. And what I'll do is, I'll say: let me ask you a question.
So let's say Bob is a true believer for a while, and then blah, blah, blah, he falls away. And he becomes an unbeliever. And he repents later and he becomes a believer again, and he dies as a believer. Is that possible? And they say, well, yeah, you know, you've got to repent.
But wait a minute. The text here says it's impossible to renew them again to repentance.
So what is it? If we use your definition, it's not possible, is it?
So they take part of it, the figurative usage, they change it into something literal, and then they take the literal, and then they change it into figurative.
Okay.
And so within they'll go, but wait a minute, it says they again crucify themselves, God, to put the open to shame. What does it mean to crucify to themselves? What does it mean? And this, I say to people, I don't know what these things mean. And I've been studying the Bible for close to 50 years, and I don't know what these phrases mean.
If I was in a debate with someone and I said, Well, they crucify to themselves the Son of God again. They do it again. And my debate opponent says: what does it mean?
Well, it means they were saved. Can you show that from the text? That's what it means.
Well saying what it means doesn't mean that's what it means. Yeah. And so I would be at a huge disadvantage because if we could find the word used elsewhere or the phrase used elsewhere where it means that, then we'd have a case, but we don't.
Now hold on, brother. We got more to get to after the break, okay? I'll just ask you. You know, we'll see where we're at. If folks would write back after these messages for the Wow, last segment of the hour coming up, man.
going by fast. Man, things are going quick and slick. be right back. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
All right, everyone, welcome back to the show. Let's get back on with Eric from Virginia. You still there, brother? I am, yes, sir.
Okay.
Yeah, very good. I really appreciate that. That was and that's what I figured, too, because nowhere in the scriptures does it use those phrases again and nowhere does it You c I can't get salvation out of that. It it's it's kind of bizarre to me because Many people who are against eternal security, they say that people who believe in eternal security, they just want to sin. And I was like, I believe in eternal security.
I don't want to sin.
So I always thought that was a strange argument. Yeah. When people say that to me, it's just an excuse to sin. I said, where'd you get that from? That's not our position.
I never said that. It's not our position. You're bearing false witness. And that's what I've been using more and more with people who misrepresent another view. Like, I'm a Calvinist and they'll misrepresent Calvinism.
And they'll say, that's not our position. I said, you're bearing false witness. You need to repent. And so it happens a lot. And then one of the things, though, I like to do with people who say that you can lose your salvation, I say, well, then what do you got to do to keep it?
And I want to listen to the microphone. And that's when it gets into it, it becomes a workspace salvation, and then it becomes on man for their salvation as opposed to God saving us. And that's one of my biggest concerns about people who think we can lose our salvation.
Well, what do you have to do then? How do you maintain it? Because if I had to maintain it, I would lose it a lot. Make mistakes all the time. I'm not trying to.
I'm not trying to willingly sin, though. I want to serve the Lord, but I fall short and I get back up and I keep serving Him.
So that's right. That's right. Yeah, and so they misrepresent the other position. But it they it's a straw man argument, a straw man not stealing them. And I say, look, you've got to stop doing it.
That's not our position. And and then like I said. What l and I always ask when they give me a list. Are you doing them? Yeah.
Well, I'm trying. Oh, trying means you're not doing them. And then they give me this this justification for why they're sinning. Oh, so you're not doing them, which means you're sinning?
So how do you keep on your salvation if you're sinning? Yeah. One of the greatest debates ever was when you debated Jesse Morrell. And you said, You got to be careful, Jesse. You might lose your salvation.
You got to be careful. That was awful because you were showing and you were doing what he was saying. Like saying, well, you're going to lose your salvation if you do this. That happened in Montana. I was just thinking about that a little while ago.
And I remember being there and this congregation which I thought was from all sides of the argument. And I don't know if you saw that in the video or if it was on the video or not. But where when I said to them, I forget the exact wording, but I said, What, you guys to the congregation, you don't sin anymore? And they all, yeah, of course not. Do you remember that part?
Do you remember the expression? Do you remember when you said one thing that you said, and you were being very humble when you said it, you said, look, I'm the biggest sinner that I know. You were just making a point about you still, you know, you might fall short with some stuff. And they took that as in you were endorsing sin, which was the complete opposite. You weren't endorsing sin.
You were being humble, and they could not get over the fact that you were being humble about it. And I remember that. I remember that one lady said that you asked her, so you don't sin at all in thought, word, or deed ever. And she's like, no. Are you kidding me?
I know, I still remember that moment. And I remember the moment and thinking to myself, I don't remember what I said or not, but I remember thinking. They need the gospel. They don't know what's going on. You know, and when people tell me they don't sit anymore, I usually come back with: spend five minutes with me, and I'll fix that.
Yeah. You know? Because you know, I can be pretty irritating and I'll get up to soon. It's a joke. What I'm saying is a joke.
And yeah, you know what? But I've had people say, Oh, see, you're endorsing sin. Man. Oh, it it's the complete opposite. Complete opposite.
Yeah, so it's it's great.
So you're doing great. I really love your debates, and I really appreciate you as given the true gospel and the gospel of grace and that God saved us. We can't save ourselves.
So thank you so much for taking my call. And thank you for all your great work that you do, Matt. Hey, well, praise God. He gets all the glory for using a dumb, broken vessel.
Okay.
That's it. Absolutely. God bless you, brother. Thank you so much. All right, God bless.
Okay.
Bye, bye. That reminds me, my favorite coffee cup, my literal favorite coffee cup. Is has a chip in it, and that's what I want. That's what I would seek out usually. unless I'm using the electric one, but I'll I'll use that because it's broken.
And that reminds me of me and God's grace.
Now I've got a debate coming up next month and it's on the 20th.
So it's a month from today, and it will be on the topic: is the Trinity Biblical? Is the Trinity biblical? And someone trying to set up another debate with me, which the topic hasn't been decided yet, the date and the format.
So on August 20th, Which is a Thursday, and probably at 6 p.m. my time, which will be 8 p.m. Eastern time, is the Trinity Biblical, and I'll just give you guys a heads up, and maybe we can put that on. on I guess Robert Bolaw. And we put it up on the Carm calendar.
I forgot to do that, but we can do that. Hey, everybody, just want to let you know. We stay on the air about your support. I don't like asking, I don't like reminding, but if you'd be so gracious and kind as consider that, even if it's $5 a month, every bit helps. And if we can get a thousand people to donate it, even at $5 a month, That's just a cup of coffee, a big cup of coffee at a nice place.
That helps us pay the missionaries, keep the lights on, pay for all the things we need with the computer website and forums.
Well, we don't have the forums anymore, but people want them back. All kinds of stuff. Any rate, so just let you know. All you gotta do is go to carm.org and at the top of the page you'll find the word donate. And it is easy to do, easy to cancel, easy to set up.
We have a new system we implemented a few months ago, and it's working great. It is working great. All right. Oh man, we got somebody coming in. I can see what it is.
Okay, and if you want to give me a call, the number's 877-2072276. Let's get to. Patrick from North Carolina. Patrick, welcome. You're on the air.
Uh hello, Matt. Thanks for writing me. Call in.
Okay.
Um You're just talking about Tasting the heavenly gift in Hebrews. Yeah. Um You know, uh i is living water this period? Is living water the Spirit? We would have to look at a particular verse to determine that.
Yeah, and j John seven thirty nine It says uh The spirit is living water. John 7:31, and many of the crowd believed in him, and they were saying, When the Christ comes, he will not perform the signs that. More signs than those uh this man. Will he that's John 7:31 doesn't say that. No, on seven thirty-nine.
Oh, 739. But he spoke of the spirits. Let's go back in the context. The day of the feast, Jesus cried out, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Will believe in me.
He who believes in me, as the scripture said, from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. But this he spoke of the Spirit. uh which you he received uh received yeah so what's your question yeah Okay, so Holy Spirit is something that we can drink because he said, if you thirst, come to me and drink. And uh it's the it's the Holy Spirit.
So, what we mean by you tasted the heavenly gift. is when you drink your tears of living water. And that's when you're born again.
Okay.
Um That is profoundly ridiculous, exegetically. No, it's not. And bad. And I know. No, you just don't believe it.
I think that you, hold on, and I know that you believe that a person's tears are his baptism. Is that correct? No, not his baptism. It it's his um Um As true repentance of great sorrow, you'll find tears of living water. Oh, so when he's repentant and he cries, the tears are the living water?
Yes. Then what happens if someone doesn't have the ability to shed tears or people like that? Then what?
Well, you don't talk a lot. You don't have that's that's splitting hairs.
Well you said I'm testing what you said. You said that they it it's the tears that are manifested. They have to manifest. They have to be there.
So what do you do with someone who physically can't tear uh can't cry, can't shed tears? Their old fi their glands don't work and their their tear ducts don't work. What about that?
Well, 99% of people can cry tears. What about the 1% that can't?
So, what happens to that?
Well, let's not talk about that. Let's just dismiss them.
So they go to hell then? It because you're you're you're nitpicking.
So, wait, wait a minute, wait, wait. I'm just taking what you're saying, I'm applying it to all people. And so, are the 1% who can't cry, did they go to hell? Yeah. I I don't want to answer that because it doesn't involve the truth.
Well, wait a minute. I'm testing your truth by asking questions related to what you've laid out. No, you're side Frenchman. No, I'm not. I'm just asking, you know, people have said to me, you have to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord in order to be saved.
And I say, what about the deaf or the mute who can't speak? And they go, Well, what it means is, you know, normally you got to confess it. And I go, Great.
So a mute person could just believe in their heart, right? They go, Yeah, yeah, it's fine.
Okay.
Well, I'm basically asking the same kind of question. According to the scripture, You can drink your living water because Jesus tells you: if you thirst, come to me and drink. And you can taste your tears when they come down the side of your cheeks to your mouth. Oh, okay. And so you can taste the heavenly gift because the Holy Spirit.
Oh wow.
Okay.
So okay, so then what you're saying is Only those people who can cry. Can be saved. Is that right? Those are the true people that are born again, yes.
Okay.
So uh did you know that about eight point six percent of men and six point uh five point uh percent of women report losing the capacity to cry? I don't know. I don't want to get into that. That doesn't make sense. You mean the facts are confusing you?
Wait a minute. You when Country Five But When Jesus said you must be born of water and spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven, the water is living water.
So the water is your your tears? Yes, you have to truly repent of your sins with great sorrow. And you'll cry tears of living water. And those who can't cry. physiologically can't cry what happens to them.
2 Corinthians 7:10, Godly sorrow will bring repentance that leads to salvation.
Okay, I didn't ask that. I said, I said, what happens to those who don't who can't shed tears? What happens to them? God God'll figure that out. But wait a minute, if you're saying that you have to shed tears in order to be saved, then you're saying you have to shed tears in order to be saved, except when you don't have to shed tears in order to be saved.
You're contradicting yourself. Your personal testimony on the internet says you were crying like a baby the day you were saved. Is that true? Yes, and I'm crying right now because your logic is so profoundly bad that it's so difficult to f have make sense of what you're saying. My logic glands are just secreting and they're crying all over the place.
Let's get. Going here. Hey, folks, there you go. Hope that was interesting. May the Lord bless you by His grace.
You'll be back on your tomorrow. And we'll talk to you then. Have a great one. Another program powered by the Truth Network.
